Eyewitnesses describe frantic search for loose Duluth zoo animals


ST. No one and heavy rains flooded Lake Superior Zoo Tuesday night, had realized that the polar bear, seal that had escaped from the zoo cajas.La flood response took hours - PAUL, Minnesota and left some residents wondering what was safe to leave their homes. Zoo guards did not know which flooded the premises until he received a call about the seal in the middle of the road nearby.
This is because, unlike the Minnesota Zoo and Como Zoo, Lake Superior Zoo has no security guards 24 hours a day, cameras or motion detectors. And the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which regulates zoos, does not require zoos to ensure security 24 hours a day. Duluth zoo officials said floods could have been foreseen and planned to install security cameras later this summer.
